RSVP RIDES FOR VETERANS, Norfolk County

Volunteers drive local Veterans to and from medical appointments and other necessary trips, using their own vehicle with supplemental liability insurance from RSVP, and $0.30/mile reimbursement. Riders must be ambulatory or bring a caregiver to assist them in getting in and out. Trips may be local or to a VA Hospital including Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, or Brockton. Drivers are called as needed, usually one to two times per month and can opt in or out for any given trip request.

 

DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS DRIVERS, Boston VA Healthcare System

Pick up veterans at home for medical appointments at a VA Hospital, one half or full day per week. Drivers complete background check through the VA and rides are scheduled by DAV staff at hospitals. Average 3 riders per morning for a single hospital volunteer. SUVs with insurance and gas provided.

 

VETERAN-HOSPICE PARTNERSHIP, Norfolk County

Veteran Volunteers make a great difference in improving end of life care for fellow Veterans.  Visit a Vet in their home for friendly visiting and comfort giving. Recognize your fellow veteran for their service to their country with a certificate of service and handmade afghan.  If you are a veteran, related to a veteran or someone in active military service, please consider this service position.

 

FRIENDLY VISITING, MEALS &  ACTIVITIES - CONTINUING CARE COMMUNITIES, Dedham, MA

Visit with isolated veterans, support vets as a ‘mealmate’ at Newbridge on the Charles. Visit with vets and assist with activities, or lead a men’s group with Kindred at Highgate. Flexible hours. Weekly commitment is sought. Make a difference in the lives of elderly veterans! 

 

MILITARY VETERAN SUPPORT GROUP FOR INCARCERATED VETS, Norfolk MA; Walpole MA

Join as a group of one or two other veteran facilitators to promote DOC Core values of responsibility, respect, honesty and caring.  Facilitate discussion programs with guest speakers in such topics as PTSD, addictions and substance abuse, family and spousal relationships, parenting and fatherhood, child custody and support. This meaningful format serves to support the individual and group of vets, as well as their families.  

 

MY HealtheVet WEBSITE GUIDE, VA Boston Healthcare System

Assist veteran patients with online medical records portal to access their health and appointment information. Volunteers sign up for two 4-hour shifts per week at Brockton VA Hospital, Jamaica Plain, or West Roxbury.

 

‘GIVE BACK’ PROGRAM, West Roxbury VA

Provide support to cancer patients and their families as they learn about their disease and treatment options. Assist in identifying and accessing relevant resources while providing empathy, support and compassion.  Offer comfort items such as drinks, snacks and warm blankets to patients. Engage in friendly conversation and refer individuals to appropriate staff when specific medical, financial or personal issues arise

 

FISHER HOUSE FOR MILITARY FAMILIES, West Roxbury VA

The Fisher House provides temporary accommodations for America’s military Veterans and Active Duty Service member’s families, Caregivers, and loved ones when a Veteran is ill or injured. Hospitality volunteers perform light housekeeping, baking, or assist at special events to make families feel welcome and comforted during their free stay.

 

OPERATION GRATITUDE LETTERS, at your community center or at home

Join Norfolk County RSVP in thanking our active duty military service members by writing letters for Operation Gratitude. Letters are included with care packages they assemble for troops. Send your letters to the RSVP office to compile for Operation Gratitude. Print an Operation Gratitude Participation Form to turn in with your donated items. Get details on what to write here.

 

LAP ROBES FOR VETERANS, Norfolk County

RSVP volunteers are encouraged to knit lap robes for veterans to be delivered to ill and disabled veterans in healthcare facilities or home. Print a Veterans Lap Robes Participation Form to turn in with your donated items.
