Norfolk County Commission Chairman Francis W. O’Brien and Commissioners John M. Gillis and Peter H. Collins were each recognized at the 2009 Law Day celebration at Stoughton District Court. Presiding Justice Francis T. Crimmins presented each Commissioner with a certificate of appreciation acknowledging their contributions to the legal community in Norfolk County. Law Day is a national day set aside to celebrate the rule of law, and underscores how law and the legal process have contributed to the freedoms that all Americans share. In 1958 President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day as a day of national dedication to the principles of government under law. The theme of Law Day 2009 is “A Legacy of Liberty – Celebrating Lincoln’s Bicentennial”, commemorating President Lincoln’s devotion to the practice of law. In celebration of this year’s Law Day, students from area schools participated in the “Abraham Lincoln Drawing Contest” and winners were selected by the Canton Board of Selectmen. | ||
